BER funding 'absolutely fantastic' says Glass House Mountains

"It's one of the biggest things to happen at the school for a
long time," said Linda Blom, describing Glass House Mountains State
School’s new Building the Education Revolution (BER) funded
facilities.
The 103-year-old school located on Queensland's Sunshine Coast
was awarded over $2.65 million in Primary Schools for the 21st
Century (P21) and National School Pride (NSP) funding for a new
hall, extensions to their resource centre and general school
refurbishments.
"It's big enough to accommodate all of our 397 students plus
staff and parents" said Ms Blom, the school’s Business Services
Manager, of the new school hall.
"When we got our new tuckshop a few years ago, that was a big
deal. We thought we had everything then and wouldn’t get another
thing. But this, this is just brilliant," she said.
The hall will be used for a variety of activities including
school assemblies; physical education; music concerts and
performances; discos, trivia and movie nights.
The refurbishment of the school’s resource centre included a new
media and seminar room and an extension to the library and computer
lab, while NSP funding allowed for classroom refurbishments, school
grounds upgrade and a new school entrance.
Ray Brown, the school’s P&C President, said the new facilities
had given the school a higher profile.
"Everyone knows about the new facilities and it’s been a real
talking point in the local community," he said.
"It's been absolutely fantastic. A school hall was something the
P&C has had in the pipeline for a long time but has been out of
reach financially.
"We've had a number of school upgrades over the years, but this
is really the icing on the cake," he said.
