A major milestone has been reached in the development of a new multi-discipline and multi-use equestrian centre in Caboolture, Queensland, with the completion of Stage 1.

Funding of $1.475 million was provided for the project under the Australian Government’s $250 million Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program, which is part of the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan.

The facility will be the principal equestrian centre in Queensland and will enable the hosting of regular state and national equestrian events. The development has only come about as a result of joint Federal, State and Local Government funding, and is an example of the Australian Government's support of building major, world-class sports infrastructure in Australia.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Allan Sutherland, has highlighted the major contribution the centre will make to the Moreton Bay region, as well as to Queensland and equestrian sports in Australia.

The centre will deliver economic benefits locally and nationally, during both its construction and operation. Ongoing and flow-on employment will be supported through stabling, feed, animal husbandry, supplies, training and related business, including riding school and trail riding businesses.

For specialist equestrian sports, the centre will provide local, regional, state and national equestrian organisations with training and competition arenas, stables, parking and camping areas. When later stages of the project are constructed, a new covered arena will provide spectator facilities for 3,300 spectators for equestrian events and up to 5,000 spectators for concert events.

The multi-purpose nature of the facility means it can support a range of other events, including the Caboolture District Show, a major Urban Country Music Festival, as well as regular markets, trade shows and concerts.

Local businesses provided specialist services during the construction period, particularly local contractors and specialist trades, who undertook site preparation and plumbing construction works.

“The provision of funding and facilitation of the project under the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan has greatly facilitated and supported this important Federal, State and local community and sporting facility,” Mr Sutherland said.
