Thursday, 1 April 2010
With funding provided under the Nation Building-Economic Stimulus
Plan, Defence Housing Australia (DHA) has commissioned a tropical
style demonstration house.
Damian Hale, Federal Member for Solomon, welcomed the new housing
innovation at a media event on Tuesday.
“DHA commissioned this demonstration house to ensure that they
are building the most energy efficient yet cost effective housing
that is suitable for Darwin’s tropical climate. Through this process
they have identified many energy efficient features that can be
incorporated into future housing designs,” Mr Hale said.
“This home will provide an ADF member and their family with a
home that will have many energy efficient features designed for
tropical living”.
It is a unique energy efficient house that is one of 185 Defence
houses being built in Darwin over the next two years by DHA as part
of the Nation Building- Economic Stimulus Plan.
The Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan has injected over
$245.58 million into the construction industry for Defence housing
with over $76.2 million being injected into Darwin.
DHA has already delivered over half of the 829 houses it is due
to build under the program. The remaining houses are due to be
complete in the first half of next year.
