New science and language centres in schools across Australia

The Prime Minister, the Hon Kevin Rudd, and the Minister for Education, the Hon Julia Gillard, yesterday announced that 537 science laboratories and language learning centres will be built or refurbished under the first stage of the Science and Language Centres for 21st Century Secondary Schools element of the Building the Education Revolution.

Visiting Marsden State High School in Brisbane, the Prime Minister announced that $810 million in funding will provide students with access to modern facilities with leading edge technologies in their own learning spaces.

Construction of these projects will commence quickly, providing immediate support for jobs.

Secondary schools were assessed through a competitive process where they were required to demonstrate the school’s disadvantage and need.
