The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, the Hon
Julia Gillard, visited Heathcote Public School in New South Wales
this week to talk to local tradespeople working on the school’s
Building the Education Revolution (BER) projects, under the Nation
Building – Economic Stimulus Plan.
Heathcote Public School received a total of $2.125 million in BER
funding to upgrade and refurbish a range of school facilities.
Local construction company Jervis Constructions, based in
Caringbah, is undertaking the BER works at the school.
Works include upgrading the existing school hall; construction of
a new covered outdoor learning area; and much-needed school
refurbishment including painting, floor coverings and repairs to
walls, floors, fittings, roofs, stormwater components and paved
outdoor areas.
Local businesses have been engaged by Jervis Constructions a
result of the project, and a number of new jobs have also been
created within the company including five carpenters, three
labourers, an apprentice and Project and OH&S Managers.
