Community Infrastructure making a splash in Mildura

Tuesday, 2 march 2010

Residents in and around Mildura have marked the completion of nine community infrastructure projects, with the official opening of the redeveloped Merbein Swimming Pool.

Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese was on hand to open the redeveloped facility on 18 February. The redeveloped pool features a new 25 metre, eight lane pool and disabled access.

In total nine infrastructure projects are now complete in and around Mildura worth over $3.4 million, with $1.5million funding provided under the Regional and Community infrastructure element of the Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan and the remaining $1.94 million provided by Mildura Rural City Council.

The other completed projects include the construction of two netball courts on Eleventh Street in Mildura, the relocation of the Red Cliffs Toy Library to the Maternal Child Health Centre and significant upgrades to Ouyen Youth Park, Millewa Pre-school and public amenities in Merbein.

The funding also contributed to extensive garden and landscape development along Mildura’s river front and on Deakin Avenue in Mildura; and the installation of an environmentally friendly pollutant trap in the Mildura South Wetlands.
