Tuesday, 2 June 2009
The Prime Minister, the Hon Kevin Rudd, recently took time out to visit a
Defence housing construction site in Darwin, where more than 50 houses are under
construction as part of the Economic Stimulus Plan.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to meet with builders and Defence
Housing Australia (DHA) staff before touring the construction site in the suburb
of Lyons.
The Prime Minister demonstrated his brick laying skills while discussing the
effects of the Economic Stimulus Plan with the locals.
A total of 185 Defence houses will be built in Lyons by June 2011.
In addition, five apprenticeship places will be supported by DHA in Darwin,
to assist the construction industry to continue to train skilled tradespeople.
