Malkara School in the ACT is dedicated to providing education to
students with special early childhood needs. The school has recently
benefited from a $75,000 classroom refurbishment funded under the
National School Pride (NSP) element of the Building the Education
Revolution (BER).
In addition to the NSP funding, Malkara School was successful under
the Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) element of the BER,
receiving $850,000 to extend and redesign the early childhood
classrooms.
The refurbishments and construction work are now complete. Three
existing classrooms have been extended, with each classroom leading
into a central courtyard area with a new veranda. The refurbishments
to the classroom and outdoor spaces provide an improved
indoor/outdoor learning environment for students.
Speciality bathroom areas have had a substantial makeover and now
offer improved student safety and privacy for students with special
needs.
The refurbishments incorporate new, vibrant colours resulting in a
more inspiring space for teachers and students.
School Principal, Jennie Lindsay has extended the school's
appreciation to builder GE Shaw Pty Ltd for the professional close
working relationship they established with the school and the
quality of their work.
