Bellaire Primary School in Highton, Victoria, has welcomed the
start of construction on their new $3 million library and learning
neighbourhood as a result of funding under the Building the
Education Revolution component of the Nation Building – Economic
Stimulus Plan.
School Principal, Ms Jane Warren, is excited about the new centre
and the opportunities it will provide the school in continuing its
innovative team teaching and shared learning models.
“Bellaire has been working on the ethos of shared learning
communities for a couple of years now and we are very excited by our
BER project which will give us a purpose built space to continue the
model,” she said.
Year 6 student, Justin, said the team teaching allows him to
always get help when he needs it. “All the teachers are there to
help everyone,” he said.
The school has welcomed the learning neighbourhood’s template
design which uses best practice design principles, open plan
learning spaces and a high level of environmentally sustainable
design.
“The template building designs have given us exactly what we want
from a new facility,” Ms Warren said. “They are flexible and take
much of the burden off the school normally caused by contracting a
series of our own architects, a timely and costly process.”
