A block of flats near Canberra’s city centre is currently
undergoing much needed repairs and maintenance work as part of the
Social Housing Initiative under the Nation Building – Economic
Stimulus Plan.
The complex, located in the suburb of Reid, was identified as
requiring extensive refurbishment work. Many of the flats were
uninhabitable or were likely to become so in the next few years.
The repairs and maintenance work will see existing bedsitter
flats converted into modern two bedroom units – enabling a greater
range of clients, including families, to live on the site which
previously only catered to singles.
Local company Pearson Sullivan Constructions was engaged to carry
out the refurbishment, and local engineering firm, Northrop
Engineers, was engaged as the superintendent. Housing and Community
Services Total Facilities Manager, Spotless, is coordinating the
project.
The refurbishment works are well underway and are expected to be
completed by June.
These units are part of the 243 social housing dwellings to be
upgraded in the ACT as part of the Nation Building – Economic
Stimulus Plan.
