Upgrade for Traralgon Intersection
Friday, 5 February 2010
Work is set to begin next week on a $450,000 safety upgrade at a
high risk intersection in Traralgon with funding from the Nation
Building - Economic Stimulus Plan.
The safety upgrade will involve the construction of a left turn
lane and a larger traffic island on the southern approach to the
intersection of the Princes Highway and Post Office Place, as well
as improved street lighting and pedestrian access.
This project was recommended by a panel of independent road
safety experts.
The Black Spot Program has a proven track record of saving lives
with an evaluation showing that it prevented at least 32 fatalities
and more than 1,500 serious injuries in its first three years. This
intersection, which is being upgraded as part of this program, has
been the scene of seven crashes in the last five years.
