Hall set for refurbishment
Wednesday, 6 May 2009
Adelaide’s 38 year old Waterworld Aquatics Centre at
Ridgehaven, and the heritage listed Woodville Town
Hall are set for major refurbishment as a result of
funding under the Government’s Economic Stimulus
Plan, announced yesterday.
The Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional
Development and Local Government, the Hon Anthony
Albanese, and the Parliamentary Secretary for
Disabilities and Children’s Services, the Hon Bill
Shorten, announced $6 million would be allocated for
the two projects.
The $3.3 million of funding dedicated for the
refurbishment of Woodville Town Hall will provide
the community with a modern facility, which is more
easily accessible for residents and visitors, in
particular with people with a disability, young
families and senior citizens. The Hall, built in
1927, currently does not comply with the Disability
Discrimination Act or the Building Code of
Australia.
The proposed upgrades to modernise the Waterworld
Aquatics Centre in Tea Tree Gully, will include
building improvements set to advance the layout and
design of the facility. The $2.7 million in funding
with also provide a new twin water slide, a splash
ground, a new cafe area, and filtration upgrades.
This funding, part of the Government’s $800 million
Community Infrastructure Program, will fund more
than 3,000 community infrastructure projects across
Australia – supporting jobs, stimulating local
economies and delivering long-term benefits for
communities.
