Insulation industry says new jobs likely to rise

The Australian insulation industry is reporting strong growth with positive flow on effects throughout the supply chain, as a direct result of the Australian Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package ceiling insulation programs.

At an industry roundtable held in Brisbane this week, members of the Australian insulation industry gathered to report progress on implementing the ceiling insulation programs.

Insulation Council of Australia and New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer Dennis D’Arcy said jobs figures would rise above original estimates.

“Our original figure of 4,000 jobs being created under the ceiling insulation programs needs to be upgraded – it will be more than this,” Mr D’Arcy said.

Members told of businesses doubling and trebling their staff – more installers, office, warehousing and call centre staff.

The ceiling insulation training package developed by the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, was welcomed by industry as an opportunity to promote national industry standards.

“The training program will benefit the industry beyond the life of the program, resulting in a strengthened insulation industry,” Mr D’Arcy said.

The standards will position the industry well for the future as energy efficiency requirements, mandated by governments for commercial and residential properties, take effect.

Industry members also reported householders were appreciative of the Australian Government’s ceiling insulation programs and were keen to invest in other energy efficient measures, such as wall and floor insulation.
