New home provided to family of nine in WA

A vacant two bedroom home in very poor condition has been demolished to make way for a new five bedroom home in Western Australia, as a result of the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan.

The five bedroom property, located in Hilton, has become a much-needed new home to a family of nine previously living in crisis accommodation.

Construction work began on 9 February 2009, days after the Australian Government approved projects for Stage One of the Social Housing Initiative under the Economic Stimulus Plan. The house was complete six months later – two months ahead of schedule.

Approximately 15 subcontractors and three apprentices were employed as part of the project.

WA company Endius Homes carried out the work, and Mr Jim Papas of Endius Homes said that as a small builder, the timing and scale of the Economic Stimulus Plan had been really important to his business – enabling him to maintain skilled staff and keep regular sub-contractors in work.
