Round One of the $12.4 billion Primary Schools for the 21St Century announced

Following on from the successful implementation of the National School Pride Program, Round One of the $12.4 billion Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21) element of the Building the Education Revolution has been announced with 1499 Australian schools primary schools (including special schools and the primary component of K-12 schools) set to receive $2.8 billion in funding for works including libraries, multi-purpose halls and new classrooms.

Round One funds 2010 projects in eligible schools across Australia.  The variety of projects funded includes libraries, multipurpose halls or, in the case of smaller schools, covered outdoor learning areas.

Construction and refurbishment work will commence as soon as possible, with many projects planned to begin in May 2009.

The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, visited a number of schools across Australia this week including Blackmans Bay Primary School in Hobart and the Burwood Heights Primary School in Melbourne.
