Camp Hill Primary School, Victoria welcomes new construction
Tuesday, 8 September 2009
At the heritage listed Camp Hill Primary School in Bendigo,
Victoria, the community has banded together, relocating five classes
in preparation for the construction of a new library and learning
neighbourhood.
Camp Hill Primary School – operating continuously on its current
site since January 1878 – received $2 million under the Primary
Schools for the 21st Century component of the Building the Education
Revolution for the new facilities.
School Principal, Ms Leonie Roberts, says teachers have adapted
to their new temporary locations during construction. The school
will have its portable classrooms replaced with a new library space,
fitting neatly into the space available under the school’s heritage
elm trees.
“It will be fantastic to have a modern 21st century building on
the site which will promote individualised learning and create
spaces for innovative teaching,” Ms Roberts said.
“The school and community were thrilled with the news of our
building,” Ms Roberts said.
