Townsville's 'arterial' injection in transport
Thursday, 11 March 2010
Under the Government’s Nation Building Program, Townsville is set
to gain improved road infrastructure to support its growing
population and expanding industrial base.
The Douglas Arterial will be duplicated from a two lane to four
lane road, following the appointment of a preferred constructor.
The AbiGroup Seymour Whyte Joint Venture are commissioned to do
the detailed design work.
This project is expected to put up to 488 Queenslanders in jobs,
building the road infrastructure vital to sustained growth in
regional Australian.
Funding for the project was brought forward through the
Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan allowing work on the necessary
planning and preconstruction work to start in 2009.
The $110 million project funded by the Australian and Queensland
governments is expected to be completed earlier than originally
scheduled.
