New covered outdoor learning area
St. Andrew’s Grammar in Perth is a hive of activity with the
recent completion of a new covered outdoor learning area (COLA) and
the commencement of construction on a new library funded under the
Building the Education Revolution (BER).
St Andrew’s received $200,000 under the National School Pride
(NSP) program as well as $2 million under the Primary Schools for
the 21st Century element of the BER for the construction of a new
junior school library.
West Australian construction company, Psaros Builders was
contracted to undertake the work, and seven tradespeople, including
one apprentice, worked on the COLA project, which took just eight
weeks to complete.
“This COLA has provided a much needed all-weather shelter for the
middle school students and has extended potential teaching and
recreational areas that can be used all year round,” School
Principal, Mr Craig D’cruz said.
Benefits of the new COLA extend to the school community and the
broader Hellenic Community, who will also use the facility for after
hours Greek Dance classes and the Annual School Fair.
“The new COLA is a great success for the school. The final
structure has been showcased to a number of schools from other
educational sectors,” said Mr D’cruz.
Work will now commence on the junior school library which is due
for completion in mid January 2011.
St Andrew’s Grammar is one of 1,061 schools in Western Australia
to receive over $137 million in funding under the NSP program.
