Tuesday, 12 May 2009
Over 3,280 projects have been announced under both components of
the Community Infrastructure Program (CIP). Many projects have begun
work already.
Under the first component of the CIP, of the one-off funding of
$250 million provided to local councils in 2008-09, more than 3,600
projects were submitted and 3,200 have been approved for payment.
Projects funded under the CIP range from an electrical works
upgrade for the Bensons Lane Sporting Complex in Richmond, NSW, to
construction of a facilities block at Belyuen sports oval in the
Northern Territory which includes change rooms, a first aid room and
storage for sports equipment.
Projects under the second component, CIP-Strategic Projects, have
been approved to the value of $550 million and are currently being
announced. These include projects such as floodlighting for
Bellerive Oval in Tasmania, a redevelopment of the public library in
Campbelltown, South Australia, and the Hilton Community Precinct Development in the city of Fremantle, which will support
transforming a number of outdated buildings into a substantial hub.
