Tuesday, 12 May 2009
Concrete slabs have been poured and construction is underway on
new Defence houses in Darwin.
Just three weeks after the contracts were signed, work has
commenced on 58 new homes under the Economic Stimulus Plan.
A total of 185 new houses will be built in Darwin for Defence
families by June 2011, at a total cost of $76.22 million.
The Minister for Defence, the Hon. Joel Fitzgibbon, recently
visited the construction site to view progress and meet with
builders and staff from Defence Housing Australia.
Under the Economic Stimulus Plan, Defence Housing Australia is
being provided with $251.58 million in funding to construct a total
of 802 new Defence homes across Australia.
