The start of construction, late September
Progress to date on the new library
As recently reported on this website, the laying of the
foundation for a new library at Perth’s Mirrabooka Primary School
signalled the start of onsite construction across Western Australia
under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century element of the
Building the Education Revolution (BER).
Seven weeks into construction, substantial progress has been made.
Using funding of $2.05 million, Mirrabooka Primary School is
constructing the library and a new covered assembly area with music
and art rooms.
The project marks an important step for local company Hilburn
Constructions. Despite being a relatively small company of four
employees, directors Adam Hilbrands and John Blackburn were prepared
to tender for BER projects.
Adam Hilbrands explained that being awarded the contract for
Mirrabooka Primary School was important to their young company.
“We’d done a number of school building projects before, but to have
this level of activity in the industry has given us confidence
during what had been a quiet period,” he said.
“We’ll be able to utilise a number of subcontractors who might also
have been looking at work going quiet,” said Adam.
