New facilities for Leighland Christian School, Tasmania.
Thursday, 14 January 2010
Leighland Christian School is a multi-campus school that caters for
years K-12 in Burnie and Ulverstone on Tasmania’s north coast.
Under the Building the Education Revolution (BER) the school
received $199,950 from the National School Pride (NSP) and
$2,000,000 from Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21). This
funding is being used for projects at both campuses so all students
and staff will benefit.
The funding for the Burnie campus was used to construct a new,
purpose built area that consists of a foyer, library, computing area
and student amenities. These new facilities will provide greater
access to information and resources not previously available. The
new area joins existing buildings and undercover outdoor areas,
which allow students and staff to move around the school while
undercover at all times.
With construction of this area completed, students and staff were
able to start using these new facilities before the end of the 2009
school year.
Parents and staff are thrilled the projects have been completed
faster than expected and are pleased with the new layout of the
school, which greatly improves access to the buildings.
“It changes the whole feel of how the school works”, said Business
Manager, David Gray.
The new facilities allow for further growth and development within
the School. When asked whether the new facilities have met
expectations, Mr Gray said “No doubt they have. They have exceeded
expectations”.
