Full Duplication Of Hume Highway One Step Closer
Tuesday, April 14 2009
Contractors have been appointed to design and build two new bypasses on the Hume Highway around the towns of Tarcutta and Woomargama, bringing full duplication of this important highway one step closer.
The contracts were set to be announced later this year, but have been brought forward thanks to the Australian Government’s decision to fast-track $490 million in infrastructure funding to support jobs and the economy.
Work will now begin on the two bypasses later this year and is expected to be completed in 2011.
The Tarcutta bypass will be built by a team made up of Leighton Contractors, Maunsell Australia, SMEC Australia and Coffey Geotechnics. Abigroup and Sinclair Knight Merz will deliver the Woomarga Bypass.
Once completed, the two bypasses will cut travel times and increase road safety along this key transport link. The
Hume Highway will also take up to 2,000 trucks a day off the streets of Tarcutta and Woomargama, increasing safety and amenity for these communities.
