Defence homes completed ahead of schedule
Tuesday, 16 June 2009
The first Defence houses funded under the Australian Government's
Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan are complete.
The two Defence Housing Australia properties, located in Brisbane
and Townsville, were finished in just 10 weeks – three months ahead
of schedule.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, along with the Hon. Arch Bevis MP,
Federal Member for Brisbane, recently visited Brisbane to take a
walk through the new house.
The Prime Minister also presented the keys to the house to
Brigadier Chris Hamilton, who accepted them on behalf of all Defence
members and their families living in the South Queensland region.
“What we have done in partnership with our friends in Defence is
to bring a whole lot of construction forward, funded now, providing
jobs for tradies in this local area, while providing necessary
quality Defence housing for our men and women in uniform” the Prime
Minister said.
The two houses are the first of 802 homes being funded under the
Economic Stimulus Plan.
A further five houses are due to be completed in Brisbane before
the end of June, while several more houses will also be completed in
Townsville by the end of the month.
