10 new defence homes complete in Canberra, ACT.
Thursday, 18 March 2010
Australian Defence Force (ADF) families will benefit from the
completion of 10 new Defence homes in the ACT suburb of Conder,
built under the Defence Housing Initiative.
The Defence Housing Initiative is a key component of the Australian
Government’s Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan and will
provide $245.58 million to Defence Housing Australia for the
construction of an extra 829 residential houses to assist ADF
families.
On March 17, Ms Annette Ellis MP, Federal Member for Canberra, and
Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) Chairman Mr Derek Volker,
officially opened the newly completed homes.
The Conder project provided scope for the involvement of apprentices
under DHA’s Apprenticeship Support Scheme, which was launched to
complement the additional construction generated by the Nation
Building-Economic Stimulus Plan.
DHA has already completed over 400 out of 829 homes to be
constructed under the initiative.
