The construction of 16 new social housing dwellings in the outer
suburbs of Adelaide will commence within weeks.
The new houses, located in Hackham, are a result of $5.5 million
in funding for the first stage of social housing construction under
the Economic Stimulus Plan.
The construction of these new dwellings had been on hold for some
time due to the lack of available funding.
A local development company will now undertake the work,
consisting of 13 three bedroom houses and three two bedroom houses.
Once completed, the houses will be managed by a community provider.
The funding provided will also enable the local company to employ
two new employees, and retain two employees who were facing
retrenchment as a result of the global economic crisis.
The 16 dwellings will be part of a total of 246 new social
housing dwellings approved in South Australia for stage 1
construction under the Economic Stimulus Plan.
