Passing loop at Kilbride upgraded
Monday, 21 December 2009
The modernisation of the Sydney to Brisbane rail corridor has
reached another major milestone with the opening of a newly extended
passing loop at Kilbride between Maitland and Dungog in New South
Wales.
The Sydney to Brisbane project includes a new passing loop at
Mindaribba, as well as the upgrade and extension of five existing
loops at Kilbride, Kerewong, Loadstone, Kilawarra and Johns River.
This $11.2 million project will improve the capacity and speed of
the interstate rail network, and is part of a plan to cut transit
times from Melbourne to Sydney by 20 per cent, and Sydney to
Brisbane by a further 20 per cent.
Work on the project is being undertaken by the Australian Rail
Track Corporation (ARTC) in partnership with TEJV, Robsons, Downer
EDI and Ansaldo.
The ARTC will complete 17 rail projects as part of the Nation
Building – Economic Stimulus Plan, following a $1.2 billion equity
injection by the Australian Government.
