Social housing refurbishment offers family a fresh start in WA

The repairs and maintenance of social housing is well underway in Western Australia, as part of the Economic Stimulus Plan.

Minister for Housing, the Hon Tanya Plibersek, recently inspected a social housing property in the outskirts of Perth, where the refurbishment has been completed.

A total of 397 social housing dwellings will be refurbished across the State at a cost of $40.5 million.

The property cost $48,000 to refurbish, and involved the work of two carpenters; four painters; one registered plumber and two apprentice plumbers; one electrician; two cleaners; one gardener; and one glazier.

The new tenant was delighted with the newly refurbished property. Her three children are already enrolled in the local school and they are all looking forward to the opportunity to start afresh.
