Social housing upgrades in Melbourne’s outer east

The Minister for Housing, the Hon Tanya Plibersek, recently visited Bayswater North where over $410,000 is being invested to upgrade 66 social housing dwellings.

Work at the site includes internal and external painting, re-carpeting, new vinyl flooring, some kitchen replacements, bathroom repairs, gutter replacements, roof repairs and other general maintenance.

Work on the 66 dwellings is expected to be completed before the end of this financial year.

Under the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan, the Australian Government is investing approximately $50 million in 2008-09 on social housing maintenance across Victoria.

Further allocations across the state will soon be announced for 2009-10.
