NSW border to Acacia Ridge rail upgrade underway
Friday, 23 October 2009
The modernisation of the interstate rail network continues, with
work now underway on the significant upgrade of the line between the
New South Wales border and the Brisbane suburb of Acacia Ridge.
The $55.8 million project, funded under the Nation Building –
Economic Stimulus Plan, will replace existing timber sleepers with
105,000 new concrete sleepers, and is expected to support 120 jobs.
As well as the replacement of sleepers, the project will also
involve the provision of narrow gauge access from Acacia Ridge to
Bromelton, and from Bromelton to Glenapp, as well as the conversion
of existing loops to dual gauge track.
The upgrade of the line north of the New South Wales border will
improve the track's capacity and reduce transit times.
