Work starts on $310 million Banora Point upgrade
Wednesday, 23 December 2009
Work has commenced on the Banora Point Upgrade on the Far North
Coast of New South Wales, with the first sod on the $310 million
project turned by Premier Kristina Keneally, NSW Minister Assisting
the Minister for Transport and Roads David Borger, and Federal
Member for Richmond Justine Elliot.
The project is expected to support up to 250 jobs in the short
term, and will involve an upgrade and realignment of the Pacific
Highway between Barneys Point Bridge and the Tweed Heads Bypass.
When completed in mid 2012, the upgrade will reduce travel time
and improve safety for the 55,000 motorists that use the route every
day.
The start of works at Banora Point is a key part of the $3.6
billion Pacific Highway program. The upgrade of this highway is one
of the largest infrastructure projects in state history, with more
than half the highway expected to duplicated by the end of next
year.
