Support for 32 TAFE Institutes across Australia
Thursday, 25 June 2009
The Acting Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations,
Senator Mark Arbib, recently announced that 32 TAFE institutes
across Australia will share in $200 million of funding for training
infrastructure.
Senator Arbib made the announcement at the TAFE division of
Swinburne University in Croydon, Victoria, which will receive $9.96
million for a Flexible Green Trades Complex.
The $200 million Training Infrastructure Investment for Tomorrow
(TIIFT) funding supports the upgrade or new development of
infrastructure, and the purchase of plant and equipment to enable
TAFE institutes to develop and support skilled Australians for the
future.
Projects under the TIIFT will especially focus on skills for a
sustainable future, including the emerging greens skills sector and
industries affected by climate change.
Successful projects were recommended by an independent National
Assessment Panel that provided a prioritised list of projects for
the Minister’s consideration.
The $200 million funding forms part of the Teaching and Learning
Capital Fund for Vocational Education and Training, which is a $500
million injection into public skills and training infrastructure.
The Australian Government announced the Teaching and Learning
Capital Fund for Vocational Education and training in December 2008,
as part of a $4.7 billion nation building infrastructure package to
support the Australian economy.
