Work has started on the installation of boom gates and other
safety measures at three priority level rail crossings in NSW.
Lights and boom gates will be installed at three level crossings,
which currently have stop signs. The crossings are on Broadway Road
in Jerrawa, Timbumburi Street in Duri and Railyway Street in
Nemingha.
As part of the Nation Building - Economic Stimulus Plan, work
will begin on a further eight priority level rail crossings in NSW
over the coming fortnight.
Stops signs will be replaced with lights and boom gates at:
- Fitzroy Street, Narrabri;
- Back Kootingal Road, Kootingal;
- Tereel Road, Wards River;
- Woods Road, Craven;
- Cessnock Road, Kearsely;
- Dolly's Flat Road, Killawarra;
- Gostwyck Road, Kelly's Plains; and
- Gap Road, Gap.
The projects will be delivered by the Australian Rail Track
Corporation (ARTC). Overall, 55 sites in NSW will have lights and
boom gates installed costing $42.8 million allocated as part of the
Economic Stimulus Plan.
Nationally, the $150 million Boom Gates for Rail Crossings
Program will fund the installation of boom gates and other safety
measures at 292 level crossings by the end of June 2010.
