Coastal Walk up and running
Wednesday, 26 August 2009
A $700,000 Coastal Walk in Port Macquarie has been completed as
part of the Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan.
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and
Local Government, the Hon Anthony Albanese, inspected the Tacking
Point Lighthouse Stairs yesterday, a key component of the nine
kilometre tourist attraction.
"Before these stairs, residents and tourists had to scramble
across the unformed track or walk along a very narrow roadway to get
to the lighthouse and the recently finalised stairway leading from
the lighthouse south to the beach," Minister Albanese said.
The Coastal Walk is a shared pedestrian and cyclist pathway
stretching from the Town Green out to Lighthouse Beach.
The Australian Government contributed $103,000 towards the
facility through its Regional and Local Community Infrastructure
Program.
