Work has begun on a new library and learning neighbourhood, and
refurbishment projects at Beaumaris North Primary School in
Victoria, under the Building the Education Revolution (BER).
Beaumaris North Primary School received $3 million in funding
under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century element of BER, and
$200,000 for refurbishment and repair to existing buildings under
the National School Pride Program.
School principal, Ms Sherril Duffy, said the school community’s
response to the BER funding had been overwhelmingly supportive.
We needed to relocate 21 out of 23 classrooms to make way for the
new buildings and over 200 parents gave up their time and relocated
classroom equipment and an entire library to temporary facilities,”
Ms Duffy said.
Students at Beaumaris North are excited about the new learning
spaces BER is providing and aren’t concerned by the short term
inconvenience.
“I don’t mind that I have to be in smaller classrooms at the
moment because I know great new classrooms are being built which is
going to benefit me and the younger kids,” Year 6 student Andrew
McBain said.
“I think the resources the Government is investing in the school
will help me out when I’m old enough to join the workforce because I
will already have the computer experience from learning right here
in the new IT classrooms,” Year 6 student Bonnie Adams said.
