An ant infested gymnasium at a Wodonga primary school is just one of the projects being funded under the Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Government Service Delivery, Senator Mark Arbib, recently visited Wodonga West Primary School to see first-hand how the first stage of the National School Pride program was rolling out.

Senator Arbib and Principal Jocelyn Owen inspected the school’s white ant infested gym flooring, which will soon be replaced using part of the school’s funding under the Building the Education Revolution component of the Economic Stimulus Plan.

Under the National School Pride Program, $1.3 billion will be provided to schools to refurbish and renew existing infrastructure, and build minor infrastructure of up to $200,000. Round One of these projects will be completed by 20 December 2009.

Senator Arbib said the Wodonga West Primary School project was good news not only for the school but also for the community, with the intention being to make the upgraded facility open to the broader school community.

Senator Arbib also reviewed what the school planned to submit in a future round of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century Program – another key element of the Building the Education Revolution. This Program will provide $12.4 billion to primary schools to build or renew large scale infrastructure including classrooms, libraries and halls.
