A $5 million funding injection from the Government’s Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan has accelerated the opening of an additional lane to traffic on the M80 Ring Road between the Deer Park Bypass and Boundary Road in Melbourne.

The Australian Government provided the funding to fast track works that would deliver early benefits to drivers before major construction begins on the M80 Ring Road early next year.

The M80 Ring Road is a key freight route and an important connection for many growth areas in Melbourne, currently carrying 142,000 vehicles per day, of which 16 per cent are trucks.

The completion of these early works will allow traffic to flow freely from the recently opened Deer Park Bypass onto the M80 Ring Road and will help reduce travel times for motorists heading into the city.

Overall the Australian Government is contributing $900 million toward the $2.25 billion upgrade of the M80.

The project is a great boost for Victoria and once complete, will significantly improve safety for motorists, enhance capacity and improve travel times along the Ring Road route.
