The Hon Wayne Swan MP answers your questions - Transcript

Hi, I’m the Australian Treasurer, Wayne Swan.

Welcome to this website. Its aim is to help you understand the government’s economic stimulus strategy which is Australia’s response to the world financial crisis. The government has decided to tackle the problem head on.

The Australian people aren’t responsible for the downturn but together we can reduce its severity and protect the living standards of working families and by targeting our economic stimulus in the right way we can ensure that the recovery is not only speedier but that it sets Australia up for the future. There are many elements to the economic stimulus package investments in schools, roads, homes and the environment as well as direct payments and tax breaks for individuals, families and businesses.

We know people have a lot of questions about why we’ve taken the action we have, about why we’re confident it will work and what direct benefits you and your community are entitled to. We want to answer them as directly as possible so please send in your questions and your ideas. We want to hear all of them. I won’t be able to answer each question individually but I hope to answer all the major concerns you have.

Thank you.
