On-site construction works underway at Truscott Street Public School, NSW

Truscott Street Public School, located in North Ryde, NSW is set to benefit from new facilities being provided under the Primary Schools for the 21st Century element of the Government’s Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan.

The school received $2.5million in Building the Education Revolution (BER) funding to provide a major upgrade and expansion of its existing school hall, including a covered outdoor learning area (COLA), as well as build a new canteen including storage facilities, covered walkways and access ramps.

Work commenced on site in September 2009 and is expected to be complete in mid 2010.

“After surveying the school community and deciding upon the works to be carried out I was pleased to hear that our requests for a larger hall, new canteen and COLA, new storage facilities and a covered walkway were approved,” explained Michelle Shannon, Relieving Principal, Truscott Street Public School.

“The school community are excitedly awaiting the completion of the work and are looking forward to using the new facilities.”

The BER program has also been timely for Maintek Projects, who are working with the Managing Contractor BLL to build the new school facilities.

“Maintek have benefitted directly during a difficult time in the construction industry,” said Michael O’Connor, Operations Manager, Maintek Projects.

“The project has seen increased job opportunities during an otherwise slow industry job market”.

Maintek has been able to employ full-time, contract, subcontract and casual staff and anticipate employing over 10 additional full-time resources throughout the course of the BER project.
