Defence Housing Initiative gives new life to Tasmanian building industry

Defence Housing Initiative gives new life to Tasmanian building industry - after

Innovative projects and additional support under the Nation Building-Economic Stimulus Plan (NB-ESP) has given a boost to Tasmania’s building industry.

Hobart is set to gain ten Defence homes under the NB-ESP by April 2010.

Wilson Homes, a Tasmanian building company, is one example of a local, family business set to benefit from undertaking these new projects as part of the Federal Government’s NB-ESP and Defence Housing Australia (DHA) schemes.

This Federal government award is the latest in a series of achievements for the company. However, the company seeks to promote itself not only as Tasmania’s leading professional builder, but also as a leader in affordable homes throughout the state.

Ben Wilson, General Manager of Wilson Homes for the past eight years, is proud of the recognition.

“I’ve been extremely pleased. Working with DHA was extremely enjoyable, mainly because in Tasmania we often do not get the opportunity to be involved in many Federal Government tenders and contracts.”

“The big focus of our business is affordability and for our customers to see value for money and have more options available,” Mr Wilson said.

Wilson Homes was included in the Housing Industry Association (HIA) top 100 builders in Australia over the past three years and was acknowledged in the prestigious HIA Housing top 100 builders this year.

“Volume is not always necessarily the best outcome and we just want to see consistency and continue to build quality housing,” Mr Wilson said.
