WA school year begins on the right foot

Contractors in Western Australia have credited the Building the Education Revolution program with keeping business running smoothly during the past few months.

The WA Department of Treasury and Finance’s Building Management and Works received another accolade to start the school year.

A multipurpose food technology classroom at Coolbellup Community School, the first complete building as part of Primary Schools for the 21st Century in WA, was finished five weeks ahead of schedule by a contractor new to government tenders.

McGovern Constructions’ Stuart Pike was positive about the program and its implementation in WA.

“BER was tendered and awarded swiftly and effectively and pretty much kept ‘bums on seats’ for our company,” Mr Pike said.

“The projects are quite small and could be completed quite quickly, filling what would otherwise have been a gap in our workload.

“Building Management and Works did a brilliant job in assessing and awarding the various sites given the magnitude of the package and the tight timeframes in which they were working within.

“For us, it has been a rewarding project from an experience perspective. It definitely helped us maintain our workload and workflow.”

McGovern Constructions are also working on an undercover assembly, music and art building at Yangebup Primary School and an undercover assembly area at Gilmore College as part of BER.
