Queensland's Social Housing Industry continues to benefit
Queensland’s contribution to the nation wide stimulus has been
further bolstered by the completion of affordable housing projects
throughout Central Queensland and in particular in the Bundaberg
region.
To address the waiting list for affordable housing a cluster of nine
two-bedroom units was recently completed and introduced into the social housing
pool within eight months of commencement.
Local builder, Dukewood Homes Pty Ltd has been able to provide secure
employment for 13 tradespeople including two apprentices for the duration of
construction. Local industry has been further supported through the preferential
use of local suppliers throughout the Bundaberg region.
By adopting sustainable design principles in construction, the complex has
achieved a five-star energy efficiency rating, assisting residents in reducing
their household bills.
The site was chosen in close proximity to local infrastructure to give
tenants easy access to shops and public transport as well as providing
substantial car parking facilities for tenants and visitors for greater
accessibility.
New resident Mrs. Leverton said, “As a wife and fulltime carer of my husband
who has disabilities, this housing has made a huge difference in both our lives.
Managed and maintained by the Bundaberg Housing Company the units have also
been provided with open space as a private garden to each dwelling.
“I am able to concentrate on caring for my husband without the worries of
maintaining a yard and constantly moving from house to house when owners decide
to sell,” she said.
