Children in Western Australia’s Shire of Quairading have a safe
new playground as a result of the Australian Government’s Nation
Building Economic Stimulus Plan.
The Australian Government’s $250 million Community Infrastructure
Program (CIP) provided funding of $50,000 for the construction of a
new playground and community area.
Shire of Quairading Community Development Officer, Apryl Longford
explained how the Government’s investment has helped the local
community, which is situated two hours east of Perth.
“The CIP, as the major funder of this project, ensured the
delivery of not just a playground, but a beautiful space for the
community and for visitors. Construction of this project provided
work for Quairading and regional contractors and businesses,†Mrs
Longford said.
The Playground Enhancement Project transformed the bitumen in
front of the community building to grass and paved the adjacent
access path to make it a safe area for children.
The new playground has been fitted out with a rubber safety
surface, a shade structure and a limestone retaining wall. Fencing
was erected around the whole area, enclosing the playground, grassed
areas and buildings to keep children safe and to create a barrier
between the car park and family areas.
A barbecue was also installed under the veranda of the community
building to make the area more versatile for community use.
“The new playground and the surrounding enhancements will result
in greater range of events in the area and increased patronage,
which will benefit local business,†Mrs Longford said.
“This public area is accessible to visitors and locals, allowing
them to enjoy our country lifestyle in a safe family environment.â€
