More public housing for senior Territorians
Construction of eight new seniors homes in Brooks Place, Malak
and McKay Place, Millner were completed as part of Stage One of the
Australian Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.
Seniors are Territory Housing’s fastest growing client group. The
new homes have been built to universal design principles and many
accommodate specific needs of senior Territorians. Some of the new
dwellings incorporate features such as: wheelchair accessible
entries, hobless showers with handheld shower outlets and free
flowing passage ways for wheelchair access to internal rooms.
As more Territorians choose to stay in the Territory for their
retirement years, it’s important that senior specific accommodation
is available.
This new development will enable senior Territorians to move into
more appropriate accommodation and is also expected to free up three
and four bedroom properties for Territory families.
