The First person moves into the new Older Persons Complex in Canberra
Older Persons Complex, Curtin ACT
Housing and Community Services ACT has handed over the keys to
the first older persons unit to be built under the Australian
Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan.
The funds to construct the complex specifically designed for
older people were provided by the Australian Government while the
land was provided to Housing and Community Services by the ACT
Government at no cost.
All homes in the 12 unit complex meet Adaptable Class C under
Australian Standards. One of these properties also includes a third
bedroom suitable for a live in carer. The properties have an energy
rating of at least 6 stars and also include highly efficient gas
boosted solar hot-water systems.
The households, who are moving into the centrally located suburb
of Curtin, are relocating from other public housing properties. The
properties returned will be allocated to families and clients from
the priority Social Housing Register.
